The .djvu file format is similar to the PDF file format. It was created as a suggested alternative to PDF, but it never really caught on in the way that PDF did. Nonetheless, it can still be found online, especially in the open source community.
It is mostly used when scanning documents and images, and its compression abilities are outstanding. So, if you happen to stumble upon this file format and don’t know how to open it, check out these three software options.
1. WinDjView
This software is really good. It opens files quickly and has multiple advanced viewing properties, a good interface, continuous scrolling, thumbnails, bookmark creation, excellent page navigation and much more. This is definitely one of the best tools for viewing .djvu formats.
2. DjvuLibre
DjvuLibre is also a good tool. It is fast, small and opens all .djvu files with no problem.
3. STDU Viewer
Stdutility amont supports .djvu file formats and other uncommon file formats like FB2 and JBIG2, WWF. It includes standard features (thumbnail view, rotate page, search by text layer, etc.) and a handful of advanced features as well.
