How to Create Linked Objects in PowerPoint

PowerPoint, Microsoft's presentation and slide software, allows you to create animated presentations featuring text, images, sounds and other media objects. In addition to these custom features, you can also add linked objects to your presentation.
While objects embedded in your PowerPoint presentation remain unchanged even when the source file changes, linked objects reflect any changes made to the source file. For instance, if you insert a spreadsheet into your presentation and then edit that spreadsheet, the updated file will also appear in PowerPoint.

Step 1
Go to the slide in which you wish to place an object in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. On the “Insert” tab, click “Object” under the “Text” group.
Step 2
Type of the name of the file in the “Insert Object” window that appears or locate the file on your computer by pressing the “Browse” button. Double click the file to select it.
Step 3
Check the box next to the word “Link” to insert the file as a linked object. The “Link” option is located just to the right of the “Browse” button.
Step 4
Check the box next to “Display as icon” on the right side of the “Insert Object” window if you want the linked object to appear as an icon in your PowerPoint presentation until you click it. If you want the content to automatically appear in your presentation – the standard option – leave the box unchecked.
Step 5
Click the “OK” button in the upper right of the “Insert Object” window.
