about fluxbuntuedit

Fluxbuntu is a lightweight operating system based on Ubuntu, which uses the Fluxbox window manager.

Fluxbuntu's goal is to create an operating system able to run on both the high-end and low-end systems available today. Using a window manager instead of a desktop environment makes Fluxbuntu much faster and smoother to run on older systems with less RAM.

Packages

As well as using the Fluxbox window manager, Fluxbuntu excludes many applications and daemons (a computer program that runs in the background) from Ubuntu which makes it even more lightweight. It also replaces a large number of Ubuntu's default applications with lightweight alternatives such as:
  • AbiWord and Gnumeric replace OpenOffice.org as the default office programs
  • Kazehakase replaces Mozilla Firefox as the default Web browser
  • Claws Mail replaces Evolution as the default e-mail client.

System Requirements

Fluxbuntu is currently supporting Intel x86, AMD64 and PowerPC architectures.
The minimum system requirements are a 300 MHz x86 processor, 64 MB RAM and 2 GB hard disk space. The single install disk is 306 MB for the x86 version.
